General Job Description

Plans, organizes, develops, coordinates, and directs our facility’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Program in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, and as may be directed by the administrator, to assure the highest degree of quality resident care and safety be maintained at all times.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leads the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Program (QAPI); focuses on instilling a collaborative approach to continuous improvement activities into the culture of the organization.

  • Leads the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Department; focuses on task assignments, cross-functional project management, and budgeting for the department.

  • Knowledgeable in data collection, data analysis methodology, and performance improvement methods needed to support and lead QAPI.

  • Reviews processes to identify opportunities for improvement and increasing efficiency; may include consultation with leadership, staff, residents, families, and other stakeholders.

  • Identifies high risk, high volume, or problem prone areas of service and develops and tracks a QAPI program for improvement.

  • Maintains audits of systems as needed, to evaluate quality of care and the need for education or process change.

  • Organizes and facilitates the QAPI Steering Committee and its meetings by guiding discussion around performance measures and prioritizing and developing quality efforts.

  • Participates with others in conducting and reporting on business process improvement, systematic reviews, and risk assessments.

  • Leads performance improvement projects, provides education as needed and helps establish indicators for success.

  • Conducts facility meetings as directed.

  • Maintains State Readiness binders.

  • Identifies staff training needs to support QAPI and encourage staff involvement in QAPI.

  • Coach staff, management, and practitioners on how to problem solve, including how to analyze causes and contributing factors.

  • Cooks with the administrator to secure resources for performance improvement work.

  • Manages the financial, material, and human resources allotted to carry out QAPI work.

  • Communicates regularly on the process of QAPI work to leadership and staff, including the progress of performance improvement projects.

  • Conducts an annual evaluation of the QAPI efforts and presents to QAPI Steering Committee.

  • Follows code of ethics in procurement, handling of confidential information and personal conduct.

  • Maintains the confidentiality of all resident information including protecting health care information.

  • Participates in continuing education and in-services, relevant to Job Description and LTC, to ensure skills and abilities are maintained and enhanced.

Qualifications for the Job

  • Education: Alabama State Registered Professional Nurse License. QAPI Certification preferred.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years’ experience successfully leading employees completing quality related projects and/or departments. Excellent knowledge of clinical and professional standards of practice. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Key Competencies: Computer skills, including the use of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Data analysis and analytical skills. Proficient in clinical, management, and communication skills. Positive teambuilding approach to problem solving. Demonstrate strong organizational skills. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public. Clean and concise communication skills for interaction with all customers. Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise personnel.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Works in office area as well as throughout the facility. Is subject to frequent interruptions. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position. Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with the residents, personnel, and support agencies. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility, which include a medical and physical exam. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility. Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum of 50 feet. May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
