QA Technician- Night Shift

This position is located in Gaylord, Minnesota—Minnesota's Healthy Heartland. Gaylord is in south-central Minnesota, about an hour west of the Twin Cities and 35 minutes from Mankato, Hutchinson, and New Ulm. As the County Seat, Gaylord is the "Hub of Sibley County." Our facility produces liquid egg, hard-cooked egg, and precooked egg products such as scrambled eggs, patties, and omelets.
Responsibilities
- Collect product off the line to check weight, pH, temperature, package integrity, diameters, ingredient samples, and samples for solids, micro, shelf life, and temperature abuse testing.
- Collect silo and balance tank samples or other assigned samples.
- Develop proficiency in one functional department, performing assigned tasks independently while building foundational skills for cross-training and future advancement.
- Complete QA control charts and inspection log sheets.
- Check packages and master cartons for proper coding to meet USDA and company standards.
- Complete HACCP Guidelines and provide regulatory reporting documentation as requested.
- Serve as the liaison between production departments and regulatory personnel on compliance and food safety/quality issues.
- Perform pre-operational inspections and determine equipment acceptability for food safety and quality.
- Report abnormalities to leads, supervisors, or operators and perform rechecks of out-of-spec product.
- Perform SAP functions (blocking product, locating pallet production time, transfer orders).
- Calibrate pH meters, thermometers, viscosity meters, and scales to ensure accuracy.
- Follow up on defective product.
- Perform laboratory duties: AOAC and CEM solids testing, viscosity, swabbing program, PCE/BK/HCK Pre-OPP inspection, customer specifications, organoleptic testing, and monitoring pH/sodium levels.
- Monitor label-declared weights on all products produced.
- Foster open communication with all departments.
- Evaluate physical attributes: code, shape, bake-out, sanitizer concentration.
- Follow USDA, FSIS, FDA, CN, customer, and company guidelines.
- Maintain a safe and healthy workplace, adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
- Adhere to quality work practices, GMPs, and sanitary conditions to ensure product quality.
- Report conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos in English.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Ability to maintain regular and consistent attendance.
- Ability to eat eggs for organoleptic testing (odor, taste, appearance).
- Ability to follow and comply with company GMP policies.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (preferred).
- One to three months of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
Schedule
12-hour night shifts: 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM. Shift differential: $2.50/hour.
Pay
$20.91 to $24.99 per hour.
