About the role

The Level 1A QC-QA Tech is primarily responsible for hot mix quality control, including roadway testing duties to ensure HMA produced and placed meets or exceeds specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Use accepted methods to inspect, sample, and test hot mix or other materials for quality control.
  • Provide support to the QC Supervisor with inspections and setting up testing equipment.
  • Examine contract drawings and specifications.
  • Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately.
  • Complete daily work logs and maintain production records to identify field results and mix specifications.
  • Sample and test mixtures for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance.
  • Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure hot mix meets or exceeds requirements.
  • Prepare and record accurate information.
  • Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned.
  • Maintain clean, organized job sites and equipment.
  • Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies while promoting the company’s safety culture.
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience).
  • 2-5 years’ experience with hot mix operations, dirt, and base.
  • Certification Level 1A to test hot mix from TXAPA is required.

Skills

  • Knowledge and experience in the heavy construction industry and Heavy Civil Highway Industry.
  • Proficient knowledge of construction industry standards.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & Outlook).
  • Ability to read asphalt paving plans, drawings, and sketches.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information.
  • Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across all levels, delivering on commitments—results-oriented.
  • Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat, humidity, cold, rain, and heavy traffic areas.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Ability to operate job-related tools.
  • Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, legs, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carrying at least 30 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with help.
  • Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
