About the role
The Level 1A QC-QA Tech is primarily responsible for hot mix quality control, including roadway testing duties to ensure HMA produced and placed meets or exceeds specifications.
Responsibilities
- Use accepted methods to inspect, sample, and test hot mix or other materials for quality control.
- Provide support to the QC Supervisor with inspections and setting up testing equipment.
- Examine contract drawings and specifications.
- Promote job site safety, encourage safe work practices, and rectify job site hazards immediately.
- Complete daily work logs and maintain production records to identify field results and mix specifications.
- Sample and test mixtures for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance.
- Monitor and test process functions and materials daily to ensure hot mix meets or exceeds requirements.
- Prepare and record accurate information.
- Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned.
- Maintain clean, organized job sites and equipment.
- Lift, carry, and hold materials, tools, and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and policies while promoting the company’s safety culture.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience).
- 2-5 years’ experience with hot mix operations, dirt, and base.
- Certification Level 1A to test hot mix from TXAPA is required.
Skills
- Knowledge and experience in the heavy construction industry and Heavy Civil Highway Industry.
- Proficient knowledge of construction industry standards.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & Outlook).
- Ability to read asphalt paving plans, drawings, and sketches.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment when handling day-to-day information.
- Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively across all levels, delivering on commitments—results-oriented.
- Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat, humidity, cold, rain, and heavy traffic areas.
- Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
- Ability to operate job-related tools.
- Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, legs, wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carrying at least 30 pounds, and up to 150 pounds with help.
- Ability to frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
