QA MANAGER II PLANT

About the role

Under the general supervision of the QA Director, the QA Manager provides leadership at the Plant for the development, implementation, and administration of the Quality Control function to ensure product safety, integrity, and conformance with customer, divisional, corporate and regulatory requirements. This role collaborates with Plant and Divisional leadership to formulate and execute a strategic quality plan, manages vendor quality programs and customer complaints via root cause analysis, and leads development of food safety programs (HACCP, GMPs, Pest Control, Recall, Food Allergen, Environmental Monitoring). As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, the role requires understanding of its functional area and basic knowledge of related areas to contribute to cross‑functional issue resolution.

Responsibilities

• Maintaining customer quality satisfaction through control of raw materials, in‑process materials, production process, environmental conditions and finished products – 30% of time.
• Conducts or coordinates customer/vendor visits and third‑party audits; prepares and oversees customer site visits and audits; executes plans for continuous improvement – 10% of time.
• Utilizes MHPS systems to empower and develop teams, performs evaluations, creates development/training plans, manages employee relations, uses PDPs for improvement/recognition discussions, manages compensation process and recommends wage increases for high performers – 25% of time.
• Interacts with other division QA Managers, Directors, and Corporate QA leadership; leads QA team to develop specifications, BOMs, recipes and inspection plans for raw materials and finished goods – 10% of time.
• Manages department staffing, expense budget, and capital projects – 10% of time.
• Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations from OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other federal, state, and local agencies – 15% of time.

Qualifications

• BSc in Technical – Quality/Research/Product Development.
• Minimum 7‑10 years of functional/leadership experience with demonstrated success managing multiple projects and people.
• Strong leadership experience; ability to guide and influence others, communicate diplomatically, and lead exempt team managers or equivalents.
• Strong cross‑functional strategic leadership, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to translate strategy into actionable information for small or large groups.
• Ability to influence upwards and interact with Quality leadership, Regulatory, Customers, Operations, Materials, and other departments.
• Frequent communication with outside customers, suppliers, regulatory bodies and production.
• Extensive knowledge of HACCP, Auditing, SSOP’s, GMP’s, FDA, OSHA, Quality Systems, and Plant Sanitation.
• Preferred: MS in Technical – Quality/Research/Product Development.
• Preferred: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex information, apply technical expertise to review precedents, identify solutions, and select best course of action (Risk Management, Crisis, Change, Knowledge Management).
