About the role

An SDET Intern joins an engineering team to learn quality engineering by building it. Interns write automation code against real services and interfaces, learn how our business rules translate into test coverage, and see a release through from development into User Acceptance Testing. This is a coding role with mentorship, not a manual testing role.

Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain automated tests for RESTful APIs and web interfaces under the guidance of an experienced SDET.
  • Learn and contribute to the team’s existing automation frameworks, following established patterns and coding standards.
  • Build UI test cases using Playwright, and API and integration test cases for web services.
  • Convert user stories and acceptance criteria into detailed, executable test cases and scenarios.
  • Verify data integrity by querying relational databases and comparing expected against actual results.
  • Assist with test data preparation and environment setup for UAT cycles.
  • Shadow and support UAT sessions with business stakeholders, helping reproduce and document reported issues.
  • Log clear, reproducible defects and track them through to resolution.
  • Explore AI-assisted testing techniques, such as prompting a model to draft test cases or summarize failure logs and evaluate the quality of what it produces.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, code reviews, and team quality discussions.

Requirements

  • Foundational knowledge of Java development from academic work, personal projects, or bootcamp, with some exposure to the Spring Boot framework.
  • A solid grasp of Object-Oriented Analysis and Design (OOAD) concepts and the ability to write simple, modular, maintainable code.
  • Good knowledge of SQL and the ability to interact with relational databases such as MariaDB.
  • Genuine interest in writing clean, efficient test automation code for APIs and user interfaces.
  • Analytical ability to turn requirements into detailed test cases and scenarios.
  • Understanding of modern software quality principles, including Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Willingness to learn complex business rules and ask questions until the logic is clear.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, and comfortable working alongside both engineers and business users.
  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.

Preferred qualifications

  • Exposure to test automation frameworks such as Playwright, Selenium, JUnit, TestNG, or Cucumber.
  • Basic familiarity with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and ReactJS.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git.
  • Curiosity about AI and prompt engineering, and any hands-on experience using LLM tools.

Benefits

Medical benefits are provided. Copart is focused on harnessing the power of diversity, inclusion, and collaboration, fostering a workplace where everyone feels appreciated, included, and inspired to grow. The company participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's E-Verify program for U.S. applicants and employees.
