About the role
The Quality Automation Engineer will play a pivotal role within the Autonomous Haulage System (AHS) Product Development team at Komatsu. This position involves designing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive automation frameworks to ensure the highest standards of quality across complex, distributed, and real-time autonomous systems. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with product and engineering teams to translate functional and non-functional requirements into automated test plans, ensuring measurable acceptance criteria and validation. Occasional international travel may be required to support deployment and validation efforts globally. Responsibilities
- Deeply understand AHS architecture, dependencies, and safety constraints; develop risk-based test plans and automated coverage strategies
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to extract, refine, and document requirements with measurable acceptance criteria
- Define and execute comprehensive quality strategies covering functional, performance, security, and failover testing
- Design, implement, and continuously improve automation frameworks; integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines with infrastructure as code
- Promote a shift-left testing approach by embedding test hooks during design, managing test data versions, and maintaining regression test suites
- Lead manual testing efforts for edge cases and exploratory testing while automating routine tests
- Develop and publish dashboards to monitor testing trends, defect escape rates, and mean time to recovery
- Conduct blameless postmortems, identify systemic issues, and implement automated checks to prevent recurrence
- Manage compatibility matrices and deployment configurations; support field teams during installation and validation
- Mentor team members, establish coding standards, and pilot new testing tools or methodologies to improve productivity and quality
- Support occasional international travel for deployment and validation activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software or Systems Engineering, or related discipline (Master’s degree preferred)
- 4+ years of combined experience in software or systems testing
- At least 2+ years of experience in building and scaling test automation frameworks
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, or C#
- Strong experience with REST/gRPC API automation and UI automation
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and infrastructure-as-code
- Ability to manage projects from requirements scoping to production deployment
- Experience in testing complex, distributed, or real-time systems
- Proven ability to mentor less experienced QA resources
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills
- Willingness to travel up to 10% internationally
