QA Engineer / Construction

About The Role

The Seasonal Quality Assurance Engineer will provide field-focused quality assurance support for construction, sustainment, and project execution activities in Antarctica. Key responsibilities include:

• Verification of inspection and test plans (ITPs)
• Review of construction plans and specifications
• Field surveillance
• Management of quality records
• Nonconformance documentation
• Conducting risk-informed audits and assessments

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, quality management, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree
• Minimum of three years of experience in construction QA/QC, project engineering, field engineering, construction management, inspection, or a similar role
• Knowledge of construction QA/QC practices, inspection and testing, nonconformance management, corrective actions, and quality record control
• Proven ability to prioritize tasks independently, conduct field walkdowns, document objective evidence, and communicate findings clearly
• Experience working effectively with multidisciplinary teams in remote or industrial environments while adhering to safety, environmental, health, and waste management standards
• Must meet all pre-employment, deployment, medical, dental, background, access, and training requirements for Antarctic deployment
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residence (as required by contract)
• Ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance, which may take up to 4 months

Responsibilities

Deploy to Antarctica for periods ranging from 8 to 16 weeks, primarily during the Austral Summer (October to March 2027). Perform field inspections and surveillance of construction, maintenance, and project work against approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, and applicable codes or standards. Read and interpret construction plans, technical specifications, schedules, shop drawings, RFIs, and design changes to verify work readiness and conformance. Support development, review, and execution of ITPs, inspection checklists, hold points, witness points, and testing requirements. Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up quality checks; document deficiencies, inspection results, and follow-up actions. Assist in risk-informed audits, site assessments, interviews, and fact-finding reviews to evaluate quality control effectiveness and project risks. Identify, document, and help resolve quality issues, nonconforming work, punch-list items, and lessons learned. Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, and on-ice personnel to resolve quality issues and maintain accurate records of decisions and verification activities. Support project close-out, turnover, commissioning, and certification processes by verifying inspections, tests, and documentation are complete and traceable.
