The QA Automation Test Engineer plays a pivotal role within the ERP Test Engineering organization, responsible for designing, developing and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks that validate SAP solutions across functional, integration and regression testing domains. The core mandate of this role is to execute automation delivery with increasing autonomy—contributing meaningfully to the Tosca framework, driving test coverage across SAP modules, and producing high-quality automation assets that meet established framework standards.
The QA Automation Test Engineer works closely with Staff QA Automation Engineer, business analysts, functional subject matter experts, architects and development teams, to define strategy, enforce standards, implement cutting-edge testing technologies, and deliver measurable improvements in release quality at scale. This role combines solid SAP process knowledge with hands-on Tosca automation expertise to execute test cycles, support environment readiness, analyze defects and recommend process improvements.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Tosca automated test scripts and reusable components in alignment with framework standards.
- Ensure automation scripts are scalable, maintainable and transferable.
- Identify, investigate and resolve automation script failures, troubleshoot Tosca technical issues and escalate blockers.
- Leverage Tosca Commander, Data Integrity and Live Compare tools to execute test cycles.
- Develop and execute comprehensive test plans, test cases and scenarios for SAP modules.
- Evaluate testability of business and technical requirements from business requirements, user stories and solution design documents.
- Perform impact analysis on SAP changes, system upgrades and process modifications.
- Execute root cause analysis on defects identified during automation test execution; document findings and coordinate resolution with development and functional teams.
- Support data availability for automated testing; validate environment readiness by executing and reviewing smoke test results.
- Participate in requirements review sessions and automation readiness meetings; contribute quality risk assessment based on test coverage analysis and defect trends.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- 3+ years of progressive experience in quality assurance testing and solution design, development.
- Extensive experience with test automation tools (Tosca preferred) in SAP environment.
- In-depth familiarity with software development, automation testing practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Experience in DevOps and Agile technology environments.
- Ability to work with increasing autonomy; strong ownership of individual work and automation deliverables.
- Native-level proficiency/fluent in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proficiency with Tricentis Tosca Commander, Data Integrity and Live Compare tools.
- Experience in one or more SAP functional domains (ex: OTC, FTD, R2R, COM).
- SAP upgrade experience (ECC to S/4HANA) strongly preferred.
- Knowledgeable in coding practices and design patterns for building maintainable automation frameworks.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse roles throughout the organization to develop holistic testing strategies and select appropriate testing frameworks.
- Strong ability to creatively troubleshoot problems and work with cross-functional teams.
