About the role

We are seeking an experienced QA Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Playwright, JavaScript/TypeScript, and automated testing to join an e-commerce technology team in North Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in QA automation engineering, hands-on experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks, and the ability to integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines. This role requires someone who is comfortable working in a 100% onsite environment and collaborating closely with developers, QA engineers, and Agile teams. Employment type: Contract-to-Hire / Contract with Potential Full-Time Conversion. Industry: E-commerce. Work location: North Chicago, IL – 100% onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated test scripts using Playwright.
  • Build and enhance scalable QA automation frameworks using JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Develop and maintain automated tests for web applications and related services.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous testing and faster releases.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end testing.
  • Conduct API testing and validate application functionality across different services.
  • Write and execute SQL queries for database validation and data verification.
  • Work with Azure DevOps for test automation, CI/CD, defect tracking, and development workflows.
  • Use Git for source control and collaborative development.
  • Analyze test results, identify defects, troubleshoot failures, and work with development teams to resolve issues.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with developers, QA team members, and business stakeholders to ensure quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, automation coverage, and testing practices.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 6+ years of experience in QA Automation Engineering.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Playwright.
  • Strong hands-on experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong experience with CI/CD automation and continuous testing.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps.
  • Strong SQL skills for database validation and testing.
  • Experience with API testing.
  • Experience using Git and source-control workflows.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience testing e-commerce applications or platforms.
  • Experience with end-to-end and regression automation.
  • Experience integrating Playwright automation into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience working closely with development and product teams in Agile environments.
  • Strong understanding of modern software QA and automation best practices.

Additional Requirements

Professional references will be required. Successful completion of a drug screening is required. The position is initially contract and may provide an opportunity for full-time conversion by the client.
