Python Full Stack Developer
Role Description
Refactor and migrate legacy on-premises batch processing jobs, including existing PERL scripts, into Python-based services on AWS. Design, build, and maintain full stack applications (Python backend, web front end) to support batch job monitoring and operations. Re-architect batch workflows to run on AWS-native services (e.g., AWS Batch, Lambda, Step Functions) as appropriate. Analyze existing PERL scripts and on-prem batch logic to identify functionality, dependencies, and edge cases prior to refactoring. Write automated tests to validate that refactored jobs produce equivalent results to the legacy systems. Collaborate with cloud engineers on infrastructure, deployment pipelines, and cutover sequencing for migrated workloads. Troubleshoot and resolve data or processing discrepancies surfaced during migration validation. Document refactored logic, architecture decisions, and operational runbooks.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience building production applications and scripts in Python
- Experience with batch/ETL processing patterns — scheduling, error handling, retries, idempotency
- Comfortable working with Python data processing libraries and writing automated tests
- Full Stack Development Experience building both backend services and front-end interfaces (e.g., React, Vue, or similar)
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs
- Comfortable owning a feature end-to-end, from data layer to UI
- PERL Scripting
- Able to read, understand, and refactor existing PERL scripts
- Experience translating PERL-based batch logic into equivalent, maintainable Python code
- Lift & Shift / Refactoring Migration Experience
- Has been a core contributor to a migration project involving refactoring — not just re-hosting — legacy code
- Experience with batch job migration, including validation and parallel-run/cutover strategies
- Comfortable working with legacy, undocumented code and reverse-engineering business logic
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS & Cloud Experience with AWS Batch, Lambda, or Step Functions
- Familiarity with Docker and containerized batch job deployment
- AWS Certified Developer – Associate
