PWB Fabrication Technician

About the role

APL is seeking a Fabrication Technician to support the fabrication of high reliability and prototype printed circuit boards for government programs. This position involves working with engineering teams to build hardware that explores other planets and interstellar space through various NASA missions, as well as building critical prototype hardware for national security interests.

Responsibilities

  • Work with engineering to build reliable printed circuit boards.
  • Perform photolithography techniques, use automated optical inspection equipment, lay-up equipment, and vacuum lamination presses.
  • Maintain various processing equipment, keep a clean and organized work area, follow safety precautions, and collaborate with other technicians and engineers.
  • Expand and learn additional processing techniques and equipment such as plating, solder mask application, and HASL.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • 1+ years experience in a laboratory or production environment.
  • Experience with laboratory and chemical hygiene practices.
  • Experience working around chemistry and chemicals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness and ability to use both chemical and mechanical processes using varying types of equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work on equipment repair.
  • Ability to wear safety equipment and handle containers of chemicals weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience with computer-controlled equipment.
  • Willingness to work occasional overtime and/or shift work schedules during periods of high demand.
  • Experience with Excel and Word.
  • Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proactive, self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot issues to minimize schedule disruptions.
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Able to obtain a Secret level security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: High School Diploma, 1+ years experience in a laboratory or production environment, experience with laboratory and chemical hygiene practices, experience working around chemistry and chemicals, excellent written and verbal communications, strong organizational skills, willingness and ability to use both chemical and mechanical processes using varying types of equipment, strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work on equipment repair, ability to wear safety equipment and handle containers of chemicals weighing up to 50 pounds, experience with Excel and Word, able to work on multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions, able to work independently and as part of a team, proactive, self-starter with the ability to troubleshoot issues to minimize schedule disruptions, able to stand for extended periods of time, able to obtain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Preferred qualifications: Experience in a wet lab environment, experience with ERP or MRP software systems, experience in electrical assembly, good laboratory and chemical hygiene practices.
