About the role
The Purchasing Supervisor will support sales and manufacturing activities by overseeing the Purchasing Department in parts sourcing and procurement for an aviation, radar, and defense-electronics company based in Sunrise, Florida.
Responsibilities
- Research Caliber database and conduct market research.
- Source and negotiate pricing for components, including semiconductors, PCB assemblies, connectors, electromechanical parts, and related equipment.
- Interpret Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB), BOMs, and OEM part lists to validate sourcing accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and International Traffic in Arms Regulations.
- Interpret and apply contractual flow-down requirements to suppliers, ensuring regulatory and customer-specific clauses are enforced.
- Convert requisitions to purchase orders and place orders with suppliers once customer orders are received.
- Develop and maintain relationships with authorized distributors and qualified independent suppliers.
- Manage purchase orders and resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Serve as a key interface between Engineering, Production, Quality, and suppliers to align technical requirements and resolve issues.
- Collaborate with Engineering to evaluate part interchangeability, substitutions, and obsolescence risks.
- Support and enforce counterfeit risk mitigation strategies.
- Perform job costing analysis and provide input to Sales, Engineering, and Production.
- Request and complete vendor surveys for prospective suppliers.
- Research and reconcile purchase order and inventory discrepancies.
- Recommend cost reduction and process improvement opportunities.
- Lead weekly Purchasing Status meetings.
- Work with Finance to establish credit terms and ensure timely payments.
- Support ISO compliance and audits as they pertain to the Purchasing department.
- Run reports, create Excel spreadsheets, and work on special projects.
- Provide feedback to Production Planning, Purchasing, Production, Receiving, and other Supply Chain departments regarding material availability.
- Set up new suppliers and oversee all purchasing functions within the company.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of applicable work experience.
- Electronics, aviation, defense, or manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience in job costing.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Knowledge of inventory control and purchasing strategies.
- Experience reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Experience dealing with suppliers and negotiations.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001.
- Experience with purchasing hazardous materials, shelf-life items, and licensable material is a plus.
- Quantum experience is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.
- Must display cultural sensitivity and work well in a team.
