About the role
Mercury Electronics is seeking a talented, enthusiastic, and motivated Purchasing Manager to report directly to the President. This role operates in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and requires an outgoing individual with strong multitasking and deadline management skills.
Responsibilities
- Manage a staff of four to five Purchasing Agents, assigning daily tasks and monitoring outcomes.
- Maintain team efficiency by establishing, controlling, and documenting standard processes, and training staff.
- Assist in hiring, developing employees to their maximum potential, and resolving HR situations within the department.
- Promote and support ongoing teamwork and communication within the department.
- Monitor purchasing operations, identify potential problems, and recommend solutions to prevent on-time delivery issues.
- Control costs and expenditures for raw materials, supplies, equipment, and services to support manufacturing and operations.
- Develop and maintain an approved and certified supplier base.
- Select suppliers based on total cost, timely delivery, quality, responsiveness, reliability, technical competence, and capacity.
- Pursue cost reductions, delivery, and service improvements.
- Negotiate purchasing agreements and contracts, including inventory programs, performance expectations, and payment terms.
- Evaluate supplier performance, address issues, and establish improvement objectives.
- Resolve pricing or quality disputes and discrepancies.
- Locate and evaluate new suppliers.
- Conduct periodic supplier visits and audits.
- Align purchasing practices with strategic and operational business plans.
- Ensure compliance of purchase orders, claims, and contracts with company policies, regulatory statutes, and laws.
- Conduct departmental business ethically and ensure purchases adhere to approved signature authority guidelines.
- Maintain purchasing documents and records.
- Coordinate with suppliers, other departments, and customers.
- Participate in ISO audits, LEAN activities, and other initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve products, services, and lead times through supply chain enhancements.
- Suggest, plan, test, and implement departmental process improvements to enhance company efficiency.
- Acquire and maintain in-depth knowledge of departmental software systems.
- Keep senior management informed by analyzing and summarizing reports and information.
Requirements
- Minimum of two years in a supervisory role.
- Minimum of three years in Purchasing.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to prioritize work.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts at all levels.
- Ability to motivate and lead direct reports and coworkers toward common corporate goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) and databases/ERP systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing companies, particularly with electrical or electronic components.
- Knowledge of import/export documentation and processes.
- Experience with ERP software migrations, filePro databases, or Epicor ERP.
- Familiarity with ISO, LEAN, and ITAR.
Candidates must be able to occasionally work extended hours.
