About the role
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for leading a team that optimizes manufacturing efficiency and inventory levels, focusing on reducing Days of Inventory On Hand (DIOH) through pull-based methodologies such as supplier-managed inventory. They also manage supplier on-time delivery using Advanced Shipment Notifications (ASN), work with the Strategic Global Sourcing (SGS) team to enhance supplier relationships, and implement processes to minimize errors and outages (E&O).
Responsibilities
- Plan and maintain optimal inventory levels using PFEP to improve fill rates and inventory turns.
- Execute standard purchasing processes and strategies including procure-to-pay.
- Support supplier demand forecasting, capacity planning, and inventory management.
- Work with SGS to build supplier relationships and resolve delays.
- Ensure delivery capability and supply chain improvements like lead times and working capital.
- Improve purchasing function efficiency and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with Planning and Materials teams to achieve goals and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Requisition major purchased items and coordinate timely processing.
- Assist in new supplier onboarding and release processes.
- Manage make-buy and dual-source volumes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field OR equivalent purchasing experience.
- 3 - 5 years of purchasing or related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- 1 - 3 years of supervisory experience.
Additional Qualifications
- Proven track record of managing shifting deadlines and priorities.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and project management skills.
- Influence senior management, teams, and individuals across multiple cultures, disciplines, and geographies.
- Experience in High Mix, Low Volume and High Volume, Low Mix Production environments.
- Strong project management and analytical skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- ERP/MRP user (SAP/Oracle).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Accounting, or Industrial.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Association for Operations Management (APICS).
