Purchasing Manager

About the role

We are seeking a strategic and results-oriented procurement leader to oversee sourcing, purchasing, and supplier management activities across North America. This role will drive cost optimization, supply continuity, process improvement, and supplier performance while supporting operational excellence across manufacturing and business functions. The Purchasing Manager will lead sourcing strategies, negotiate supplier agreements, develop key supplier relationships, and strengthen procurement processes that support business growth and operational resilience. Success in this role requires strong leadership, analytical thinking, negotiation expertise, and the ability to effectively collaborate across global and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic sourcing and procurement activities across multiple spend categories, including raw materials, packaging, logistics, MRO, and services.
• Develop and execute sourcing strategies that improve cost competitiveness, mitigate supply risks, enhance supplier performance, and ensure reliable material availability to support business operations.
• Partner closely with Manufacturing, Finance, Quality, Compliance, Supply Chain, and Global Procurement teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, supplier optimization, and value creation.
• Lead and develop the Purchasing team while driving procurement best practices, process efficiency, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Balance strategic objectives with day-to-day operational requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5-7 years of procurement, strategic sourcing, or purchasing experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• 3-5 years of leadership experience managing purchasing, procurement, or supply chain teams.
• Proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings through strategic sourcing initiatives and supplier negotiations.
• Experience negotiating contracts and managing high-value supplier spend categories.
• Strong understanding of procurement processes, supplier management, contract administration, and sourcing methodologies.
• Proficiency with SAP and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
• Strong analytical, financial, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of supplier performance management, quality systems, and global sourcing practices.
• Ability to build effective working relationships across domestic and international teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work cooperatively in a diverse team environment.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience within the chemical, industrial manufacturing, or process manufacturing industries.
• Experience purchasing raw materials, logistics services, packaging, or indirect spend categories.
• Experience supporting global sourcing initiatives and multinational supply chain strategies.
• Professional certifications such as CPP, CPIM, CPSM, Lean Six Sigma, or similar credentials.
