About the role

The Purchasing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and timely cost estimates. This role analyzes plans, specifications, and material requirements to determine project budgets, supports bidding processes, and collaborates with project managers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure cost efficiency and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates based on construction drawings, specifications, and scope of work for residential projects.
  • Solicit, review, and analyze bids from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive and accurate pricing.
  • Develop and maintain cost databases, historical pricing, and estimating tools for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with project managers, designers, and field teams to validate assumptions and refine budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality, safety, and compliance standards.
  • Monitor market trends, material costs, and labor rates to adjust estimates and forecasts accordingly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • 2+ years of estimating experience in residential construction
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and cost estimating principles
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools; PlanSwift and NewStar a plus
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills with high attention to detail
