Purchasing Agent

Technique, Inc. is seeking a Purchasing Agent to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. In this role, you'll collaborate with vendors to secure the best prices, terms, and delivery schedules for materials essential to our operations. You'll report to the Supply Chain Manager and work within a supportive team environment.

About the Role

This position requires a commitment to safety, flexibility in scheduling, and the ability to work overtime when needed. We provide training on our systems and processes—what matters most is your attitude and foundational skills. No prior supervisory experience or responsibilities are required.

Responsibilities

• Request quotes from vendors for materials (training provided on material grades).
• Confirm purchase orders to ensure vendor acknowledgment.
• File purchase orders in our electronic filing system.
• Track deliveries and communicate estimated arrival times to the team.
• Coordinate material pick-ups with our shipping department.
• Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers while building vendor relationships.
• Suggest process improvements to enhance purchasing efficiency.

Growth Opportunities

As you master the core responsibilities, you may advance into additional tasks such as:

• Reading blueprints to understand specifications and material grades.
• Processing vendor returns in our E2 shop management system.
• Maintaining accurate kirksite records.
• Managing inventory levels and placing re-order tags.
• Creating pack lists for outside services.
• Setting up and onboarding new vendors.
• Supporting office operations by stocking the Smart Cell and supply closet.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (a degree or coursework in business, supply chain, or a related field is a plus but not required).
• 1–2 years of purchasing-related experience preferred, or equivalent knowledge, skills, and willingness to learn (training provided).
• Basic computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word) and the ability to learn new software quickly.
• Excellent communication skills, particularly over the phone, with a professional demeanor.
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to make sound, quick decisions.
• Ability to work collaboratively on cross-functional teams.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and solve problems effectively.
• Frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise.
• No travel expected for this position.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States (U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship).
