About the role
The Purchasing Agent is responsible for selecting and qualifying vendors for supplies and outsourced manufacturing needs to meet company production goals.
Responsibilities
- Locate vendors of materials, equipment, supplies, or services and interview them to determine product availability and terms of sales.
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies, equipment, and services.
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability.
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products, or materials.
- Maintain records of goods ordered and received.
- Procure materials, equipment, or services supporting the company’s business efforts, including the entire lifecycle of subcontracts: defining requirements, researching opportunities, negotiating with sources, writing subcontracts, awarding subcontracts, and closeout.
- Ensure subcontracts comply with applicable state or labor requirements and company policies.
- Negotiate the best prices for products and services while monitoring associated risks and aligning with business goals.
- Travel as required to evaluate suppliers for capabilities, quality, and commitment to company needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex commercial or technical information.
- Demonstrated proficiency with G-Suite, MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Aptitude to learn and use ETO/ERP and EPICOR software.
- Able to read and understand blueprints.
- Solid problem-solving skills.
- Able to manage multi-task work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to work proactively and independently on a broad variety of projects.
- Able to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with people in the course of work.
- Willingness to work additional hours to meet job requirements.
- Able to travel approximately 10% of the time.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Purchasing, or related field is preferred, and/or
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment.

While performing the duties of Purchasing Agent, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
