Purchasing Agent

About the Role

Responsible for planning, directing, or coordinating the process of buying materials, products, and services under the direction of the Materials Manager. Communicates with production planning, scheduling, and inventory control to ensure materials and outside vendor services are purchased at the optimal price and delivery schedule while maintaining the lowest possible inventory levels.

Responsibilities

• Manage outside vendors and ensure that approved vendors are used.
• Monitor purchase orders and outside processors to ensure materials arrive on time.
• Interface with suppliers when serious variations arise in delivery, quality, price, or conditions of sale.
• Work with outside vendors to ensure best possible pricing and seek ways to reduce cost.
• Generate, issue, and enter cycle counts.

Requirements

• Understanding of purchasing principles and practices.
• Understanding of inventory control management.
• Basic understanding of manufacturing processes.
• Able to analyze data to make decisions relative to purchasing.
• Computer skills including MS Office and experience with MRP systems.
• Knowledge of AS400 is a plus.
• Working command of the English language and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing (basic oral instructions, simple written memos, and instructions).
• Ability to adhere to safety policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of purchasing or inventory control management experience.
• Associate’s Degree in Purchasing/Business or related field is a plus.
• APICS Certification is a plus.
