Purchasing Agent

About the role

Agilix Solutions is seeking an analytical problem solver with exceptional communication skills to manage inventory, sales inquiries, purchase orders, and vendor supply chain relationships with designated suppliers of assigned product lines. This role will optimize supply chain and inventory metrics while providing excellent customer service. The position reports to the Purchasing Manager.

Responsibilities

• Support purchasing category strategies and drive their company-wide implementation.
• Maintain and build positive vendor relations on local and regional levels.
• Understand commodity purchases of copper, steel, and aluminum relative to the stock market.
• Drive value and savings through improved efficiency, optimized inventory, and enhanced supply chain performance.
• Participate in vendor selection meetings and make recommendations.
• Handle returns, dead stock prevention/follow-up, and special customer inventory.
• Work with the Pricing Department to ensure correct system costs.
• Support year-end rebates.
• Collaborate with vendor and Agilix sales/marketing teams to turn inventory.
• Negotiate into-stock pricing, special buys, and incentive deals.
• Work with Operations and Warehouse teams to manage inventory issues.

Requirements

• 1-2 years in Purchasing, Supply Chain, and/or Finance roles.
• Finance or Supply Chain-related certifications are a plus.
• Strong organizational and customer service skills.
• Self-starter with a proven track record in creative problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration.
• Passionate, high-energy individual who thrives in a complex, metric-driven environment.
• Understanding of economics, technical issues, and ability to perform independently.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including formal presentation skills and business acumen.
• Proficiency in computer software, including ERP Distribution Software (Infor, SAP, Profit 21, Eclipse, Oracle, etc.), Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and other analysis tools.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to lift up to 5-10 pounds at times.
