Responsibilities
- Ensure all safety and GMP policies and procedures are followed while performing daily duties.
- Record operating data for the department, such as products and quantities pumped off from gauge readings, operating times, lot numbers, and seal numbers, and complete required documentation as needed.
- Unload bulk product and raw ingredients from railcars and tank wagons safely and timely to meet production demands.
- Steam railcars as necessary.
- Ensure railcars and tank wagons are positioned and secured properly.
- Manufacture batches for use on production lines.
- Read and interpret formulas to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical details.
- Record production and test data for each food product batch, including ingredients, lot numbers, temperatures, and test results.
- Monitor and regulate gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, and thermometers to adjust raw material addition, mixing speeds, etc., ensuring product quality and safe, efficient operations.
- Monitor product movement to and from storage tanks, coordinate activities with other workers to ensure constant product flow, and replenish storage tanks to meet production schedules and avoid downtime.
- Support production by opening and closing product supply valves to production filling systems upon request from machine operators.
- Patrol the work area to detect leaks, equipment malfunctions, and operating conditions, reporting deficiencies to the Material Flow Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.
- Take samples of products for Quality Assurance Laboratory testing.
- Use testing equipment to verify product compliance with specifications, document results in logbooks or batch records, and report deviations to the Quality Assurance Manager.
- Maintain knowledge of transfer valves, pumps, and other equipment used to transfer bulk products from manufacturing to run tanks.
- Clean and sanitize all equipment necessary for food product manufacturing.
- Maintain general housekeeping in the working area to comply with GMPs and safety concerns.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Experience operating in a fast-paced, ready-to-eat food facility is a plus.
- Ability to work independently and manage urgent situations.
- Strong multitasking skills and ability to work well under pressure.
- 5+ years of experience in a similar role and industry.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stretch, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and balance.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with the capability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
- Must be able to work outside in environmental conditions, including extreme heat or cold.
- Activities include extended periods of walking and standing, using hands and fingers, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
Working Conditions
The job is performed in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, oil, and smoke. Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, appropriate clothing) is required.
Sensory Requirements
Ability to hear, see, speak, smell, and touch well is necessary to perform essential tasks.
Pay
Starting pay: $25.02 per hour. Pay range: up to $25.90 per hour.
