About the role
The City of Haines City is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to manage the daily operations of the Transportation Division. This role involves overseeing the planning, development, and maintenance of roadways, bridges, drainage, and right-of-way.
Responsibilities
- Manages the daily operations of the Transportation and Stormwater Division.
- Develops and manages road maintenance programs, including traffic control devices, surface, drainage, and treatment systems, bridge and right-of-way inspections and repairs, signage, and customer service requests.
- Oversees daily responsibilities of transportation and stormwater, TRB reviews, comments, and inspections.
Requirements
- Knowledge and experience in an advanced education from an accredited educational institution of higher learning resulting in a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Project or Construction Management, Public Administration, or related field, and seven (7) to ten (10) years of management and project work related experience in Construction, Streets, Public Administration or related field are required.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be considered, unless otherwise subject to any requirements outlined in law or regulation.
- Advanced MOT Certification required, or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire.
Skills & Abilities
- Ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets, and other job-related analysis.
- Ability to write letters, memos, and contracts.
- Ability to understand and develop computer models for cost analysis and compose financial and budgetary reports.
- Substantial independent judgment and decision-making.
- Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and staff performance.
- Knowledge in National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) reporting.
- Ability to read maps, blueprints, and schematics.
- Ability to perform or learn basic mathematical equations in performance construction projects.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical information, directives, manuals, memos, reports, and other work-related materials.
- Ability to work under high demands, short time constraints, and pressure of a fast-paced work environment.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge in National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) reporting.

Other Requirements
- Must possess a Valid Florida Class E driver's license.
- Must pass applicable pre-employment testing and background and credit checks.
Special Requirements
- This position may be required to report for work when a declaration of emergency has been declared in Polk County.
