Public Works Superintendent
The City of Milton-Freewater (population 7,321) is located near the Columbia River and Washington-Oregon border in Umatilla County. About the role
The Public Works Superintendent reports to the City Manager and is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of the City’s infrastructure and essential services. As a key contributor to the City’s management team, this role involves developing strategic vision for the Department and fostering a collaborative, professional, and safe environment for experienced Public Works teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and strategic vision for the Public Works Department
- Oversee all aspects of the City’s infrastructure and essential services
- Demonstrate strong leadership and commitment to public service
- Apply wide-ranging public works operations knowledge
- Engage in strategic and project planning
- Manage and develop staff effectively
- Support financial management and budget oversight
- Handle procurement and contract management
- Maintain and enhance working relationships with local and regional partners
- Communicate clearly, consistently, and respectfully
- Be visible in the community and show appreciation for Milton-Freewater
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, public administration, or related field
- At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in public works operations, engineering, or municipal infrastructure management
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License (or ability to obtain one) with a satisfactory driving record
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
Pay
Compensation is $114,888 - $139,668 (dependent on qualifications and experience).
