About the Role
The City of Lake Alfred is seeking a dependable and hardworking Service Worker II to support the daily operation, maintenance, and care of City streets, right-of-ways, stormwater systems, utilities infrastructure, and various City facilities. This full-time, non-exempt role offers hands-on work that directly supports essential public services and community safety.
Responsibilities
- Maintain City streets, alleys, right-of-ways, stormwater facilities, and City-owned buildings
- Perform routine grounds and roadway maintenance including mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, spraying ditches, and debris removal
- Operate lawn equipment, hand tools, small power tools, light trucks, and other mechanized equipment used in grounds and street maintenance
- Clean and maintain storm sewer pipes, catch basins, ditches, and sidewalks
- Assist with carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repair tasks as needed
- Mix and apply herbicides and non-restricted pesticides; support all phases of landscape installation and maintenance
- Provide support for sanitation collection, cemetery maintenance, and City special events when assigned
- Participate in on-call rotations for after-hours needs, including disaster and storm response
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years of experience in street, grounds, or similar maintenance work (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience)
- Ability to operate lawn equipment, hand tools, power tools, and large/heavy machinery
- Knowledge of occupational hazards, FDOT requirements, tools, and proper maintenance practices
- Ability to follow written/oral instructions and interact courteously with the public and coworkers
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required
- Class B CDL required or ability to obtain within one year of hire
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions with moderate to loud noise levels
- Must be able to perform heavy manual labor including lifting up to 70 lbs., climbing, kneeling, crawling, standing, pulling, and pushing
- May require working at heights (e.g., roofs or ceilings)
- Must be able to safely operate motorized vehicles and all manual/electric tools required for assignments
Pay: $16.94 Hourly
