About the role

The position serves as a representative of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for an assigned county-wide neighbor island district. Responsibilities include conducting field visits with utility and transportation companies, responding to customer complaints, conducting fact-finding, and attempting to resolve problems locally or recommending disposition to the PUC. The role also involves preparing and submitting reports, serving as a liaison with State, municipal, and other agencies, and engaging with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, investigate, and report on utility and transportation companies for compliance with PUC laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Respond to consumer complaints and attempt to bring involved parties to a mutual resolution.
  • Provide information and serve as a liaison with local agencies and the public regarding PUC rules, laws, and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit reports of findings and recommendations.
  • Conduct field visits and fact-finding investigations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience demonstrating analytical skills, including the ability to collect, analyze, and evaluate facts; identify problems and alternative solutions; and develop logical recommendations.
  • Experience must include narrative report writing and the ability to read, comprehend, and interpret complex material such as State statutes and/or Federal regulations.
  • At least one (1) year of professional work experience involving significant public contact and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others (may be concurrent with the general experience).
  • Possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.

Pay

$5,527 to $6,728 per month (SR-22, Step D to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
