Responsibilities
- Coordinates and supervises staff members and functions of the public service desks within all areas of the library.
- Supports Memphis Public Library & Information Center (MPLIC) policies, goals and objectives.
- Develops and implements library agency goals and strategic plans.
- Supervises staff including interviewing, hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, performance management, and appropriate disciplinary action in consultation with the Library Agency Manager.
- Collections books, audio-visual materials, etc., with system-wide and library agency staff.
- Develops and provides training for staff, volunteers and the public.
- Prepares payroll reports, employee schedules, leave approval forms, and related personnel actions.
- Prepares, plans, coordinates and/or presents special projects, workshops, programs and exhibits for staff and public.
- Provides information services, reader's advisory, and general assistance in library usage using print resources as well as computer databases, Internet, specialized files and collections.
- Participates in and facilitates library agency and system-wide committees as well as community outreach activities.
- Maintains the physical condition of the facilities and equipment for damages, security and safety standards, and submits reports of impairment and safety, if necessary.
- Creates and compiles various reports.
- Interacts and communicates verbally and in writing with volunteers, management, and staff on a variety of issues and concerns.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school and one (1) year of related professional library experience; or
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university and two (2) years of related professional library experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience which enables one to perform the essential job functions.
