About the role

The City of Baldwin Park is hiring a Public Safety Trainee. This is an entry-level, non-sworn, non-peace officer position that serves at the pleasure of the Police Chief and subject to dismissal without cause and without the right of appeal.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully attend and graduate from a P.O.S.T certified basic academy.
  • Learn use and care of firearms and related equipment.
  • Meet Police Officer requirements included in the California State Government Code.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least 20.5 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the Police Academy.
  • Possess a valid California Class C Driver License.
  • Be a United States Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions.
  • Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations.
  • Use and care of firearms.

Skills

  • Basic reading, writing, and spelling.

The monthly salary is $5,887.97.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Supplemental Information

Selection process includes P.O.S.T. Written Examination, Physical Agility Test, and Oral Board Interview. Candidates must provide complete and accurate information regarding their qualifications.
