Public Safety Trainee
About the role
The City of Baldwin Park is hiring a Public Safety Trainee. This is an entry-level, non-sworn, non-peace officer position that serves at the pleasure of the Police Chief.
Responsibilities
- Attend and graduate from a P.O.S.T certified basic academy.
- Learn use and care of firearms and related equipment.
- Meet Police Officer requirements included in the California State Government Code.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least 20.5 years of age at the time of application and 21 years of age by the time of graduation from the Police Academy.
- Possess a valid California Class C Driver License.
- Be a United States Citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
Qualifications
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to think clearly and act quickly in emergency situations.
- Deal constructively with conflict and develop effective resolutions.
- Learn, understand, and interpret laws and regulations.
- Use and care of firearms.
Skills
- Basic reading, writing, and spelling.
Benefits
This position is designated as "at-will," serving at the pleasure of the Police Chief and subject to dismissal without cause and without the right of appeal.
Pay
$5,887.97 Monthly Salary
Schedule
Part-time, non-benefited position.

Physical Demands And Working Environment
- Work is performed in both classroom and field training environments.
- Requires strenuous physical activity and the ability to meet all physical standards established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
Selection Process
- Completed application packets will be reviewed.
- Candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process, which may include the P.O.S.T. Written Examination, Physical Agility Test, and Oral Board Interview.
Written Examination (PELLET-B)
The City of Baldwin Park administers the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLET-).
Physical Agility Test (PAT)
This Physical Agility Test Consists Of The Following Components:
- 99-yard obstacle course
- 32-foot 165-pound drag
- 6-foot chain link fence climb
- 6-foot solid wall climb
- 500-yard sprint
Oral Board Interview
Candidates who are determined to be the most qualified will be invited to participate in an Oral Board Interview to evaluate their education, experience, and overall qualifications for the position.
Background Investigation
Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation.
