About the role
The Redmond Police Department seeks individuals who can provide timely and accurate emergency communications services. Public Safety Telecommunicators play a crucial role in coordinating police units and managing calls for service.
Responsibilities
- Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service and enter information into a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) System.
- Communicate with callers to obtain essential information and provide instructions.
- Dispatch police units as necessary and update information as needed.
- Prioritize multiple calls simultaneously and manage them effectively.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two years of experience in a high-volume/high-stress environment.
- Washington State Patrol's ACCESS certification within 6 months of hire.
- Telecommunicator Level 1 & 2 and CTO certification within 12 months of hire.
Qualifications
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in Washington State.
- Must not have a pattern of abusing prescription medication.
- Must not have had more than two moving traffic violations within the preceding 3 years.
- Must not have been involved in more than one motor vehicle accident within the preceding 3 years.
- Must not have been previously employed as a law enforcement agent and since have committed or violated federal, state, or city laws pertaining to criminal activity.
Skills
- Ability to filter and process multiple, sometimes competing, sources of information.
- Able to accurately capture, retain, and relay verbal information using English clearly.
- Excellent vocabulary and rapid typing ability (35 words per minute).
- Ability to discern several conversations simultaneously and respond effectively.
- Clear and concise communication both orally and in writing.
- Ability to condense and organize large amounts of information into readable remarks.
- Availability for shift work encompassing 24-hour days, seven days a week, weekends, and holidays.
- Consistent thinking and responding quickly in various emergency situations.
- Effectively dealing with people in a multi-cultural society under stressful circumstances.
- Quickly performing multiple time-sensitive tasks in response to visual and sound stimuli with high accuracy.
- Being a team player and maintaining self-control under stressful circumstances.
