About the role

We're looking for a dedicated Public Safety Officer to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to deter criminal acts and to report unsafe conditions as per the requirements and procedures defined in the department's policy and procedure manual.
  • Respond to all codes according to hospital policy.
  • Assist in controlling disorderly/combative persons in cases of an emergency as per the hospital's code policies and procedures.
  • Select priorities to be completed accordingly during emergencies and other situations.
  • Enforce traffic and parking regulations per the parking management plan.
  • Issue parking violations to illegally parked vehicles on hospital property as required.
  • Provide a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, medical staff, visitors and property of the organization to the extent and level defined in the department's policies and procedures.
  • Aid motorists by making calls for those who are locked out of cars, to change tires, dead batteries, etc.
  • Maintain current information for valuable retention/lost and found logs; notify individuals when lost items are located.
  • Follow the department's procedures to secure firearms and other contraband when presented.
  • Respond to requests for assistance within the organization, unlocking doors for authorized persons as defined in the department's procedure manual.
  • Provide escort services for persons as needed.
  • Perform requested emergency transport services for employees, lab specimens, and medical equipment.
  • Maintain a daily log of all activities and job functions that occur during his/her scheduled work hours.
  • Initiate documentation of unusual circumstances, unsafe conditions, malfunctions and fire hazards.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of one-year's experience in the military, law enforcement, security or closely related field is required.
  • In lieu of experience, an AAS degree or pursuing a degree in criminal justice or related field will be considered.
  • A valid New York State driver's license is required.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and approved to drive Saratoga Hospital vehicles.
  • A current NYS Security Guard License. If you do not have the license, you will have to submit the completion certificate for the 8-Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course for Security Guards. You will have 30 days from the date of hire to obtain your NYS Guard Card.
  • Must complete TEAM Essentials & Advanced de-escalation training as well as BLS within 30 days of hire.
  • Must complete any other required hospital training.
  • Healthcare security experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to providing patient-first, high-quality service.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
