Public Safety Officer

About the role
The Public Safety Officer patrols all areas of their assigned location in all weather conditions. Patrols are conducted on foot or in a variety of vehicles, including hospitals, business occupancy areas, and other assigned areas. The Officer maintains a safe and secure environment, assists visitors, patients, employees, and others with general public safety and safety issues, and responds immediately to all emergency and disaster situations. The role requires following broad instructions within established System policies and applicable laws, maintaining high ethical standards, confidentiality, and professionalism. Officers may be required to engage and physically control acts of aggression and must be armed qualified. A flexible schedule is required, including the ability to respond to any Lee Health location.
Responsibilities
- Patrol assigned areas on foot or in vehicles.
- Respond to emergency and disaster situations.
- Assist patient care staff as required.
- Provide assistance to visitors, patients, employees, and others with public safety and general safety issues.
- Operate within guidelines of established policies and applicable laws.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to complete tasks or missions.
- Engage and physically control acts of aggression or threatened violence if required.
- Use basic electronics such as digital cameras, CCTV equipment, DVRs/DVDs, multi-line telephones, handheld radios, and other public safety equipment.
- Write concise, detailed reports with proper spelling and grammar.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 1-year general security, law enforcement, military, or related experience (healthcare security experience preferred).
- Valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of employment.
- Class D Security License from FL Dept. of Agriculture & Consumer Services (or proof of application within 30 days; state-issued license required within 90 days).
- Eligibility to obtain a Class G license.
- All licenses/certifications must remain current and active at all times.
- Basic computer skills, including typing and using public safety software programs.
Pay
$20.50 - $24.09 per hour (minimum to midpoint pay rate).
Schedule
Full-time, Shift 3: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
