About the role
The Public Safety Officer Lead provides leadership to a shift of Public Safety Officers responsible for the protection of life and property on NCH Healthcare System premises. Ensures that facilities are secured through management of recognized patrol procedures for the prevention of fire, theft, vandalism and the protection of personnel.
Responsibilities
- Conducts rounds and inspects the facility, to assure that Officers are performing duties appropriately and that facilities meet standards for safety, security and customer service.
- Directly supervises and completes annual written performance reviews of Public Safety Officers assigned to their respective shift.
- Carrries out the responsibility during shift to insure timely response to all Security calls, reports of incidents and the preparation of comprehensive reports.
- Performs pre-shift roll call briefings providing all information, incidents, and pertinent issues to the on-coming Security shift.
- Reports to the Director of Security regarding officer’s performance and compliance with NCH Employee Standards of Excellence.
- Provides an Electronic Report to the Director of Security, detailing all incidents, issues and pertinent information during shift worked.
- Conducts Infant Protection specific on-the-job training for newly assigned Officers.
- Reviews performance and management of the Infant Protection Security Systems by officers and nursing to insure accountability.
- Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
- Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto Hospital premises, and enforces Identification policy for employees, contractors and vendors.
- Inspects outgoing parcels, as necessary to prevent theft of Hospital property.
- Investigates all incidents of unusual circumstances reported by Hospital personnel, visitors, physicians, and or patients and documents findings.
- Maintains proficiency with camera equipment and security systems. Uses proper techniques for the purpose of incident / accident scene documentation.
- Provides a visible deterrence to crime and prohibited activities by patrolling the building and grounds of the Hospital.
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing. Prepares accurate, clear and concise reports, and documents investigative results.
- Monitors employees for compliance with all NCH Standards of Excellence and Hospital Policies and Procedures as described in the Administrative Policy Manual and Public Safety Manual.
- As needed, provides employees with photographic identification badges with appropriate access privileges.
- Serves as a member of the Fire Control Team and responds to Code Red notifications.
- Assists in the Scheduling process to assure Security coverage is consistent with the scheduling requirements.
- Responsible for department motor vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance and safe operation.
- Ensures that officers maintain current and valid state vehicle licensing and that department vehicle is operated in a safe manner.
- Ensures that appearance and personal conduct are professional at all times. Wears appropriate uniform for job functions. Wears identification while on duty.
Qualifications
- One-year formal education or training beyond H.S.
- 3 year of experience in security or law enforcement preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and successfully pass a DMV check.
- Employees hired prior to 1/9/2022 are required to have the Basic Security Certification from IAHSS by 5/1/2022.
- Employees hired on or after 1/10/2022 are required to have the Basic Security Certification from IAHSS within one year from hire.
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
