Public Safety Officer I - 997212
Primary Purpose
Provides a crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus by observing and reporting. Facilitates use of the campus by opening, closing and monitoring control of NSU property. Investigates campus incidents and occurrences. Communicates and coordinates with the NSU community the crime prevention goals of the Public Safety Department through personal interaction and other methodologies.

Essential Job Functions
- Detects and responds to safety hazards to ensure safety of employees and visitors.
- Provides physical inspections and investigation on campus to ensure a safe environment.
- Conducts security and safety audits to ensure that hazards and dangers are identified.
- Completes accident and injury investigations on campus to ensure proper record keeping of incidents.
- Completes activity logs, incident reports to ensure proper record keeping of incidents.
- Covers for local law enforcement concerning the investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses.
- Conducts fire system inspections and emergency response drills.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions
- May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of bending, climbing, sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties up to 8 hours.
- May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Previous customer service experience.
- Previous customer service, public safety, security, or police experience.
- Parking enforcement specialist certification.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office products.
