Primary Purpose

Provides a crime prevention and life-safety presence on campus by observing and reporting. Facilitates use of the campus by opening, closing and monitoring control of NSU property. Investigates campus incidents and occurrences. Communicates and coordinates with the NSU community the crime prevention goals of the Public Safety Department through personal interaction and other methodologies.

Essential Job Functions

  • Directs, trains, and schedules Public Safety officers to ensure operational objectives are met.

  • Takes command of situations or incidents involving threat to persons or property involving the university and directs the proper resources to ensure the safety of the NSU community.

  • Takes notice and reports to supervision any incident, condition or situation that could negatively affect the ability of the Public Safety Department, or any other entity to function in the most productive manner to ensure timely notifications of threats, hazards, and personnel issues.

  • Provides physical inspections and investigations on campus. Conducts security and safety audits. Completes activity logs and incident reports.

  • Coincides with local law enforcement concerning the investigation of incidents, crimes, and losses.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Physical Requirements / Working Conditions

  • May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of bending, climbing, sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties up to 8 hours.

  • May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils and computer keyboards.

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

  • Must be able to work any shift, including weekends and holidays.

Required Certifications/Licensures

  • Have or obtain current and valid Florida Driver's License with no more than three (3) points.

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Previous customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Parking enforcement specialist certification.

  • Previous customer service, public safety, security, or police experience.

  • Previous experience with Microsoft Office products.
