Public Safety Officer
About the role
Lake Forest College seeks a full-time Public Safety Officer to perform duties including responding to calls for assistance in emergency and crisis situations, providing support during special events, conducting vehicle and foot patrols of the campus, enforcing college policy, and limited enforcement of state laws and local ordinances on campus. Officers are also responsible for enforcing parking regulations and completing incident documentation.
Responsibilities
- Respond to calls for assistance, including emergency and crisis situations

- Complete proper incident documentation
- Perform other duties as assigned by a Commander or Director
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Minimum of two years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Previous related security/law enforcement experience preferred
- Previous experience in campus public safety strongly preferred
- Sound judgment and excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
- Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook
- Valid US Driver’s license and excellent driving record
- Ability to work extensive periods of walking, standing, and sitting
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, regardless of severity
Schedule
The Department of Public Safety operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Weekend and holiday availability is required. While primarily assigned to either the night or evening shift, officers must be available and willing to work other hours as assigned. This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week with benefits.
Pay
Hourly rate of pay: $22.00
