Public Safety Officer/Armed - Full Time - 1st Shift

Job Summary

The Armed Public Safety Officer is responsible for providing safety and security for the hospital during normal day-to-day operations and emergencies.

Department Specific Job Details

• Shift: 7:00AM - 3:30PM, rotating weekends and holidays

• Education: High school diploma or GED required

• Certifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age

  • Must maintain a valid Ohio driver’s license (No SR-22)

  • Must meet all eligibility requirements for coverage under the hospital’s insurance policy

  • Must be able to obtain OPOTA Private Security Academy certification or Basic Peace Officer certification within 12 months of hire

  • OPOTA certification preferred at time of hire

• Experience:

  • Previous law enforcement, military, corrections, hospital security, or armed security experience preferred

  • Experience working in healthcare or behavioral health environments preferred

• Skills/Competencies:

  • Able to lift and move heavy objects as required

  • Able to carry a department-issued firearm and successfully qualify with required department standards

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills

  • Able to work effectively in high-stress and fast-paced environments

  • Able to interact professionally with patients, families, visitors, and staff
