About the Role
The Public Relations Specialist will coordinate all public relations functions for the company, owning both the strategy and execution of Geographic Solutions’ messaging roadmap for external communications, award submissions, media lists, and promotional efforts across various press and content mediums. This role requires experience in public relations within a fast-paced environment, leveraging an existing network while building new relationships as a brand ambassador.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all public relations content and activities for the corporate brand and product line.
- Draft press releases, pitches, case studies, white papers, and media summaries.
- Coordinate and gain final approval from stakeholders (corporate management, clients, and client-identified stakeholders) on all messaging.
- Distribute approved messaging across domestic and international press release distribution sites.
- Lead and execute media strategies across print, social, television, blogs, podcasts, and other mediums.
- Build and maintain relationships with media contacts across industries and geographic locations served.
- Maintain relationships with industry memberships to secure ad placements and feature stories.
- Develop strong working relationships with key editors, online media, and industry organizations.
- Create written features targeting applicable audiences to maximize company visibility through innovative, brand-elevating stories.
- Develop, implement, and manage a yearly media calendar/schedule.
- Pitch story ideas highlighting company image, accomplishments, software launches, client successes, industry best practices, corporate events, and product lines.
- Identify and pursue industry awards, accolades, and recognition opportunities to generate positive publicity and strengthen brand awareness.
- Deliver consistent messaging to various media outlets.
- Organize, schedule, and prepare key leaders for press interviews.
- Lead media crisis management, including strategizing, troubleshooting, and creating solutions.
- Assist in crisis public relations strategy when necessary.
- Field press inquiries and coordinate with the Marketing Department and Management team to respond professionally and timely.
- Work with the company’s economist to maintain and create public relations-style content, such as the brand’s Economist Corner publication, and explore new content mediums.
- Collaborate with team members to seek out award opportunities and submit applications.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Public Relations, Communications, and/or Media Relations.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and execute successful public relations campaigns.
- Experience cultivating and maintaining key media contacts using PR tools such as Muck Rack, PR Newswire, Qwoted, Meltwater, or similar.
- Applicable knowledge in copywriting and editing.
- General understanding of how SEO and GEO impact corporate website traffic.
- Confident communication style, effective across all levels and forms.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to manage workload and deliverables independently.
- Strong prioritization, time management, and detail-oriented writing skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience with HubSpot is a plus.
- Experience with Public Relations tools such as Muck Rack, PR Newswire, Qwoted, Meltwater, or similar.
Special Requirements
- Willingness to travel to GSI’s headquarters in Palm Harbor, Florida, for New Hire Orientation and as needed.
- May be assigned additional projects and tasks as needed.
