Public Relations Intern Responsibilities
- Supporting the Mayor’s Office in implementing the City’s PR strategy.
- Create engaging content for media releases, social media platforms, and newsletters.
- Update and maintain the Mayor’s social media pages.
- Build relationships with community partners and potential partners, suppliers, and the media.
- Aid the Mayor’s Policy Advisor, PR manager, and Parks and Recreation, and Community Development with the scheduling and organizing of Mayor’s events.
- Give input on marketing initiatives and suggest creative ways to improve the City’s public image.
- Conduct research on marketing initiatives of other Cities.
- Maintain monitoring of media coverage on events and media releases that were issued and create press clippings.
- Update media lists.
- Perform administrative duties.
Public Relations Intern Requirements
- Enrollment in a BA or BSc degree in public relations, communication, public administration, or journalism.
- Excellent understanding of various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
- Efficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Basic budget coordination skills to track spending on sponsorships, events, and marketing material as assigned.
- Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with the North Lauderdale Community.
- Good research and analytical skills.
- The ability to prioritize internship workload and keep to strict content deadlines.
- Willingness to attend corporate events after hours and on weekends.
- Knowledge of copywriting and editing.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a student actively enrolled in a college or university with a GPA of 2.7 or higher OR a graduate student or recent graduate from a college or university with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Applicants must complete all requirements established by the City of North Lauderdale Executive Interns, which may include, but is not limited to, a written examination, a comprehensive background investigation, and a job-related medical examination including a drug/alcohol screening test.
- Must be a non-smoker.
Benefits
- Compensation: $15.00 per hour
- Durability: Semester Based Program. Continuation is based on successful performance of duties and educational institution’s requirements.
