About the role
The California Energy Commission is hiring for a Public Information Officer (Information Officer I) in the Media Relations and Special Events Branch of the Media and Public Communications Office. This role supports the Commission's mission of communicating California's leadership in clean energy, climate innovation, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Develop compelling stories and messaging that showcase the CEC's mission and accomplishments.
- Serve as a media relations professional by responding to media inquiries and coordinating interviews.
- Write and edit engaging content, including news releases, feature stories, blog posts, talking points, speeches, and other communications materials.
- Lead and coordinate public outreach and stakeholder engagement campaigns from concept through execution.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, executive leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to communicate complex energy topics in a clear, accessible way.
- Build strong relationships with government agencies, nonprofit organizations, industry partners, community groups, and the public.
- Support California's ambitious clean energy and climate goals by helping inform, educate, and engage diverse audiences.
Requirements
- Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling abilities.
- Professional experience in journalism, media relations, public relations, marketing, or strategic communications.
- Experience serving as a media spokesperson or preparing executives and subject matter experts for media interviews.
- Demonstrated success developing strategic communications materials, including news releases, feature stories, blogs, speeches, talking points, and media kits.
- Experience leading communications projects and managing public outreach or stakeholder engagement campaigns.
- Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, nonprofit organizations, community partners, and private industry.
- Knowledge of and experience using social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn to engage audiences.
- An interest in California's energy, climate, sustainability, and environmental initiatives.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Skills

Pay
$6,031.00 - $7,547.00 per Month
