About the role

The ideal candidate must have prior experience within the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) or closely aligned state agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive advisory oversight for statewide public health initiatives, including prevention, behavioral health, chronic disease, and equity-centered programs
  • Counsel program leadership on alignment with Massachusetts public health priorities, policies, and delivery frameworks
  • Guide implementation strategy to ensure operational feasibility, adoption readiness, and stakeholder coordination
  • Advise on risk identification, mitigation planning, and continuity safeguards
  • Support development of performance metrics tied to participation, utilization, and behavioral outcomes
  • Provide subject matter review of messaging, outreach strategies, and community engagement models
  • Participate in executive briefings, governance reviews, and quarterly performance assessments
  • Serve as a senior liaison voice when engaging public sector partners, coalitions, and advisory bodies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Former senior public health official, bureau deputy, or statewide program director within a state health department or large public health agency
  • Direct leadership experience overseeing statewide public health initiatives or prevention programs
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-stakeholder initiatives involving government, community organizations, and provider networks
  • Deep familiarity with public health communications, outreach implementation, and program adoption challenges
  • Experience advising on health equity, culturally competent delivery, and priority population engagement
  • Strong executive presence and ability to guide cross-functional leadership teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing tobacco cessation, behavioral health, chronic disease prevention, or surveillance participation initiatives
  • Background supporting federally or state-funded public health programs
  • Experience advising vendors, coalitions, or multi-agency implementation initiatives
