General Description

Responsible work involving accurate input and review of 911 database, as well as understanding the overall operating procedures of the 911 telephone system. Maintains audio and printed records. Provides support to computer-aided dispatch system.

Essential Job Functions

  • Maintains daily 911 statistical information.
  • Maintains audio and printed records, and provides copies as required.
  • Provides operational assistance to the Emergency Communications Computer System.
  • Assists as required in the dispatch center performing tasks, such as dispatching, call-taking, and EOC activation duties.
  • Performs general equipment maintenance at all Pasco County Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP’S).
  • Follows up on completion of 911 Trouble Reports to ensure repairs; reviews information with shift supervisor.
  • Performs public education presentations pertaining to 911.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of operational phases of County government and emergency services.
  • Knowledge of the geographic area of Pasco County and adjoining areas.
  • Knowledge of a computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system and its primary components.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to offer viable suggestions and possible solutions to assist in maintaining a high-quality emergency communication system.
  • Ability to operate a computer on both mainframe and personal computer level, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and manuals, and apply these instructions to daily work situations.
  • Ability to operate and learn new skills as related to the Emergency Communications Computer System.
  • Ability to offer clear and accurate presentations to large groups of people.
  • Ability to react quickly to urgent requests in an emergency situation.

Minimum Requirements

  • PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using speech, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
  • EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree from an accredited College or University in a related field OR graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and two years of experience in a 911 Emergency Communication Center. A comparable amount of directly related experience may be substituted for the minimum educational requirements.
  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Emergency medical dispatch and telecommunicator certification required within 18 months of hire date.
