PT Temporary Keeper - Commissary

This is a part-time, temporary position, not eligible for medical benefits. Scheduled hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–1:00 PM. Pay rate is $22.27/hour. A 30-day layoff period will occur during the calendar year, in accordance with the union contract. This position requires the deduction of union dues.

About the role

This position receives deliveries of animal food and prepares the daily animal dietary requirements for delivery to the holding areas throughout the park. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean work area for food preparation, preparing animal nutrition, delivering animal food, truck upkeep and maintenance, and maintaining a clean work area within the hay barn. The role requires a detail-oriented person able to complete tasks within an allotted period. Truck driving responsibilities may require driving both inside and outside the Zoo.

Responsibilities

• Receive deliveries of animal food
• Prepare daily animal dietary requirements
• Maintain a clean work area for food preparation
• Prepare animal nutrition
• Deliver animal food to holding areas throughout the park
• Perform truck upkeep and maintenance
• Maintain a clean work area within the hay barn
• Operate trucks, forklifts, and Commissary equipment (e.g., bone saw, knives, stoves, pallet jacks)

Requirements

• Must be a current Zoo employee
• Must pass a fit-for-duty physical exam (paid by the Zoo) prior to placement
• Must become forklift and bobcat certified within 60 days of appointment
• Must be able to drive trucks with an automatic transmission
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable through the Zoo’s auto/equipment policy
• Must be able to lift, move, or carry 50–100 pounds on a routine basis
• Must be able to stand, walk, climb, balance, grasp, and negotiate stairs and ladders
• Must demonstrate excellent communication and customer service skills
• Must maintain a positive attitude and support growth opportunities for individuals and the Zoo

Working Conditions

• Regular exposure to outside weather conditions
• Frequent use of equipment such as bone saws, knives, stoves, pallet jacks, and Zoo vehicles (trucks and forklifts)

$22.27/hour
