About the role

The Part-Time Membership Specialist supports membership enrollment, account maintenance, retention, and customer service. This role explains membership options and policies, processes transactions and account updates, assists with member concerns, and maintains accurate and confidential records while promoting a positive member experience.

Responsibilities

  • Explains approved membership options, eligibility requirements, fees, benefits, and facility services to prospective and current members
  • Processes membership applications, renewals, changes, freezes, cancellations, payments, and related documentation within assigned authority
  • Reviews account information for completeness and accuracy and resolves routine discrepancies using established procedures
  • Assists members with account access, billing, eligibility, and service questions and escalates exceptions or disputes appropriately
  • Supports membership tours, outreach, promotional initiatives, retention activities, and scheduled events
  • Operates membership management, access-control, point-of-sale, telephone, and communication systems after training
  • Maintains accurate and confidential membership, payment, communication, and follow-up records
  • Follows cash-handling, payment-card, privacy, record-retention, and information-security procedures
  • Provides backup support for welcome-desk access and customer-service functions as assigned
  • Prepares routine membership lists, logs, or reports using approved systems and established instructions
  • Communicates unresolved account issues, system concerns, and member feedback to the supervisor
  • Attends required training, staff meetings, and emergency drills
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Work is performed in indoor and/or outdoor recreation, aquatic, fitness, customer-service, office, and activity spaces as assigned; environment may include moderate to loud noise, changing temperatures, humidity, wet surfaces, crowds, and exposure to cleaning products or outdoor weather conditions
  • Regularly interacts with patrons, students, guests, coworkers, vendors, and client representatives
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position and move throughout assigned work areas for varying portions of the shift; frequently communicates with and exchanges accurate information with patrons, participants, staff, guests, and emergency responders; frequently uses hands and fingers to operate equipment, computers, radios, telephones, point-of-sale devices, or other tools; occasionally bends, reaches, kneels, crouches, pushes, pulls, and moves supplies or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation; frequently remains at or near a service workstation and periodically accompanies patrons through facility spaces for tours or service support; frequently operates a computer, telephone, scanner, point-of-sale equipment, and other standard office devices; must be able to respond promptly to emergency situations and perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Demonstrated customer service, sales-support, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn membership management and point-of-sale systems
  • Ability to process transactions and maintain records accurately
  • Ability to handle confidential information and follow payment and privacy procedures

Qualifications

  • Experience in membership services, recreation, fitness, hospitality, retail, sales support, or account service
  • Experience with membership management, customer relationship, access-control, or point-of-sale software
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications

Skills

  • Demonstrated customer service, sales-support, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Ability to learn membership management and point-of-sale systems
  • Ability to process transactions and maintain records accurately
  • Ability to handle confidential information and follow payment and privacy procedures

Schedule

Part-time schedule with hours varying based on membership service and facility needs. Early morning, evening, weekend, holiday, and special event availability may be required.
