Responsibilities
- Safely instruct an effective, creative group fitness class at the Recreation Center.
- Provide quality customer service to all participants, regardless of fitness level, appearance, or otherwise.
- Communicate effectively with supervisor through phone, email, or in person.
- Enforce all program and building policies and procedures, including assisting during emergencies.
- Attend all Group Fitness and department staff meetings.
- Other duties as required.
Requirements
- Possess current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
- Hold ACE, AFAA, ACSM, or specialty certifications (e.g., yoga, group cycling, Pilates) for teaching specialty classes. A primary group exercise certification and specialty certification are preferred; exceptions are evaluated case-by-case.
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory abilities.
- Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in an environment valuing high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
Work Environment
- Office and fitness center environment.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
- Evening or weekend work as required.
Physical Demands
- Standing or walking for at least 50% of the workday.
- Occasional bending and stooping.
- Frequent hearing and talking.
Technical Competencies
- Proficiency with audio/visual equipment.
Human Relations
- Internal contacts include staff at all levels.
- External contacts include customers and vendors, involving troubleshooting, exchanging information, negotiating, making recommendations, or giving instructions.
