Responsibilities

  • Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws, and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Check mailbox, voicemail, and email regularly
  • Complete checkout procedures before leaving campus at the end of the academic term
  • Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation and policy
  • Teach all assigned classes for the full scheduled duration unless excused under policy
  • Notify the Instructional Dean or Office of Academic Affairs in advance of necessary absences and provide substitute plans
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines of record
  • Provide students with opportunities to track their progress
  • Submit a syllabus for each class to the Division Office
  • Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress; submit records by published deadlines
  • Submit end-of-session grades, attendance reports, and first-day/no-show student information by published deadlines
  • Submit textbook order information by published deadlines, ensuring electronic materials meet accessibility and evaluation requirements
  • Conduct final examinations at the scheduled time unless approved otherwise
  • Retain corrected final examination papers for at least one year
  • Maintain a safe learning environment in classrooms, laboratories, and instructional spaces
  • Allow instructional managers or deans to review assignments upon request
  • Demonstrate understanding and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students and employees

Requirements

  • Master’s in any field of engineering, or
  • Bachelor’s in any engineering field and Master’s in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology, or
  • Bachelor’s in any field of engineering with a professional engineer’s license (alternative qualification)
  • Ability to teach on-campus or remotely as assigned
  • Availability to teach courses in Graphics, circuits, MATLAB, statics, dynamics, and/or strength of materials
  • Proof of California residency prior to employment
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of a loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109
  • Fingerprint clearance for criminal history through the State Department of Justice (required before employment)
  • Original Social Security card (required before employment)
  • Negative TB test results (within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a California school district)

Preferred Qualifications

  • College teaching experience in a variety of Engineering science courses, including (but not limited to) Graphics, circuits, MATLAB, statics, dynamics, and/or strength of materials

Physical Demands

  • Ambulatory ability to move to various office and classroom locations, stand, bend, stoop, and reach to set up equipment and provide instruction
  • Sufficient hand-eye coordination and dexterity to write on a board or type on a computer
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and make presentations
  • Sufficient auditory ability to project voice to a group, hear questions, and carry on routine conversations
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects of medium weight (under 30 lbs.) on an occasional basis

Conditions of Employment

  • Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment
  • Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes
  • The District does not provide immigration sponsorship (e.g., H1B visas)
