About the role

The New York Post provides readers with the best in News, Sports, Pop Culture, Fashion and Entertainment—with signature wit, irreverence and authority. The Post is looking for an experienced part-time editor for the Sunday staff. This editor will serve as a line and assignment editor, transforming breaking copy on deadline to reflect The Post's unique tabloid voice while maintaining fine attention to detail and critical thinking.

The Sunday team breaks local, national, and international news, investigates government corruption, highlights quirky and humorous stories, and delivers award-winning journalism in a bold tabloid style. The role involves editing an array of stories—impactful, scandalous, or offbeat—for both the website and the Sunday print edition, as well as providing clear direction to a team of award-winning reporters.

Responsibilities

  • Edit and assign stories on immediate deadline for web and print, ensuring they align with The Post’s tabloid voice.
  • Handle a wide range of content, from breaking news briefs to sprawling features across diverse subjects.
  • Collaborate with reporters to develop and refine stories that resonate with readers.
  • Provide clear editorial direction to field reporters and in-office journalists.
  • Contribute to crafting the newspaper’s world-famous Page 1 headlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum of 5 years of editing experience in a busy newsroom.
  • Proven ability to edit and rewrite breaking news and long-form stories in lively tabloid prose for both web and print.
  • Strong understanding of The New York Post’s voice and tone.
  • Ability to identify and develop stories that engage readers.
  • Sharp eye for factual accuracy and tone.
  • Broad knowledge base across news, culture, and current events.
  • Willingness to collaborate and communicate effectively with a close-knit team of journalists.

Schedule

This is a part-time role requiring an 8-to-10-hour Saturday shift in the office, with the possibility of additional hours on Thursday and Friday.

Pay

$40–$50 per hour.
