PT Communication Studies Instructor

About the Role

The Cerritos College Communication Studies Department is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a variety of communication studies courses. The department offers a wide range of learning opportunities, including courses in oral communication, humanities, critical thinking, and social sciences, as well as an award-winning forensics program. The successful candidate will have a strong background in communication studies and a commitment to fostering appreciation of communication and supporting the department's mission.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes in accordance with course outlines and maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws, and ideas in the discipline.
• Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and academic progress, and submit them to appropriate offices by published deadlines.
• Provide opportunities for students to be aware of their progress and submit end-of-session grades and attendance reports.
• Meet all classes during the final examination period and maintain a safe learning environment.
• Allow instructional managers and deans to review assignments and maintain student confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication AND a minimum of 24 upper-division and/or graduate-level semester units in communication studies, speech communication, or speech.
• OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English AND a minimum of 24 upper-division and/or graduate-level semester units in communication studies, speech communication, or speech.
• OR the equivalent.
• Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's and/or Doctorate in Communication Studies, Speech, or Speech Communication.
• Community college teaching experience or experience teaching at a university.
• Training and/or experience with online modalities (asynchronous, synchronous, hyflex, and/or hybrid).
• Preparation and/or experience teaching communication studies courses such as public speaking, introduction to communication studies, and interpersonal communication.

Pay

$97.54 - $145.02 Hourly

Additional Information

Assignments are contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment. Class assignments may include mornings, evenings, weekends, or dual enrollment courses. The successful candidate must obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance, produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results before employment. Faculty must be able to teach on-campus or remotely as assigned and provide proof of California residency.
