Psychologist Supervisor, Psychiatry Research

Part-time, on-site position (8 hours per week) located in Boston, MA.

About the Role

Supervises psychology students who provide care for patients with mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders. Diagnoses disorders, determines appropriate treatment courses, and uses talk therapy to address patient illness or distress. Participates in faculty meetings, conducts interviews, mentors students, and leads seminars.

Responsibilities

• Goal 1: Train psychology interns for competent practice in clinical/counseling psychology
  • Train for practice in assessment and diagnosis
  • Train for practice in effective intervention
  • Train for practice in consultation and evaluation
  • Train for practice of supervision
• Goal 2: Integrate scientific and professional practice, attitudes, and skills
  • Train interns in systematic application of psychological research to practice
  • Expose interns to faculty role models of scientific practice
  • Promote scientific thinking and methods in professional practice (e.g., critical thinking, hypothesis-testing, operational problem definition, systematic information collection, use of valid assessments and interventions, communication of information)
  • Provide opportunities (not requirements) for interns to engage in formal research
• Goal 3: Integrate scientific practice with ethical and professional standards
  • Train interns in integrating ethical and professional standards with practice
• Goal 4: Integrate scientific practice with knowledge and sensitivity to diversity
  • Train interns in the knowledge base for individual, racial, cultural, and ethnic diversity
  • Train interns in placement-specific and case-specific sensitivity to diversity issues
• Adhere to departmental and institutional guidelines for universal precautions and safety policies
• Perform administrative duties to comply with programmatic, departmental, and institutional policies and regulatory requirements
• Participate in activities that promote professional development and understanding of current research and therapies

Requirements

• Doctorate Degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or MD with psychiatry specialization
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts within three months of hire
• Completion of one year of an APA-approved internship or residency
• At least 5 years of full-time experience working as a psychologist or psychiatrist
• Experience supervising students

• Adept at diagnosing psychiatric disorders and determining appropriate treatment courses
• Proficient in talk therapy to treat patient illness or distress
• Ability to supervise students/trainees evaluating patients for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
• Analytical skills to evaluate, diagnose, and plan clinical treatment programs for patients and families
• Interpersonal skills to maintain effective psychotherapeutic relationships and cooperative work relationships with multidisciplinary personnel
• Knowledge of community resources and agencies serving children and families
• Cultural sensitivity and comfort working with diverse racial and ethnic populations
• Effective English language skills; bilingual (Spanish) competency is a plus
• Advanced interpersonal skills
• Basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval

Pay

Compensation range: $31.73–$46.15 per hour. This range is based on minimum job qualifications and considers factors such as education, experience, skills, certifications, internal equity, and market competitiveness. Geographic location may modify the range.
