About The Department
The Counseling Services department at SAIC supports the emotional, psychological, and mental well-being of its students through compassionate care. Services include counseling, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, consultation, and mental health promotion.
Position Summary
The Staff Psychologist will contribute to the counseling center's primary functions, including providing short-term psychotherapy, conducting initial consultations, managing crises, and supervising advanced students.
Responsibilities
- Performs initial consultations and intake assessments to determine treatment needs and recommendations.
- Conducts brief individual counseling sessions for SAIC students.
- Provides crisis intervention and emergency coverage for students experiencing emotional distress or safety concerns.
- Consults with faculty and staff on crises and provides support during off-hours.
- Outreach programming focused on students' developmental needs and enhancing their academic experience.
- Supervises advanced psychotherapy practicum students.
- Trains and develops faculty and staff in mental health practices.
- Develops and implements policies and procedures for counseling services.
- Attends regular meetings and tabulates clinical activity records.
Qualifications
- A doctorate degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program.
- Licensed as a Clinical Psychologist in the state of Illinois or license-eligible.
- 3 to 5 years of experience working in a university or college counseling center.
- Experience with brief psychotherapy/counseling and on-call rotations.
- Experience using Titanium Schedule EMR.
Compensation & Benefits
Hiring Range: $70,000 - $82,554
