About the role
The role involves administering and interpreting psychological tests, providing counseling for special needs students, and coordinating with school leadership to ensure continuity of care.
Responsibilities
- Conduct psychological evaluations in accordance with regulations
- Use current and developmentally appropriate measures and interpret results
- Recommend appropriate school placement
- Provide psychological counseling as mandated on IEPs and IFSPs with emphasis on non-verbal techniques
- Document all sessions according to regulations
- Provide behavior management interventions including consultation, observation, and functional behavioral assessments
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans
- Collaborate with school leadership to coordinate IEP meetings and participate in conferences
- Aid staff in developing and implementing school routines for children
- Provide staff education on non-verbal counseling techniques
- Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to psychology interns
- Act as bereavement counselor for children, families, and staff as needed
- Collaborate with school leadership to create and implement professional development plans
Requirements
- PhD or PsyD in Psychology
- New York State Certification in School Psychology preferred
- New York State License in Psychology required
- Two years experience with special needs and/or medically fragile children
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Good problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to relate to families and work collaboratively with other agency representatives
Qualifications
- Must meet or exceed all health standards and requirements for the position as established by NYDOH and all other regulatory agencies
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this School
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of thirty-five (35) pounds
- Must be able to assist in the evacuation of children
